Markham-Unionville Updates 

   

Coffee Chat with Premier Ford - I had a great coffee chat with Premier Ford and my fellow York Region colleagues. We had an informative and productive discussion about priority issues in our ridings. Topics of discussion included anti-racism, ways in which we can broaden communication with our communities, and COVID-19 support. Many thanks to Premier Ford for hosting this event!

   

 

Queen’s Park Live Virtual Tour - Thank you to YRDSB Trustee Allan Tam, members of the Ontario Parliament Education and students of Markham-Unionville for participating in this tour! I trust that the attendees enjoyed my virtual tour and learned interesting things about how I serve you in my role as an MPP.

   

Private Member’s Bill, Bill 270 Senior Volunteer Appreciation Week Act, 2021 -Thank you Markham-Unionville, and colleagues PA Ke & PA Sabawy, for the overwhelming support at our consultation. We are proud to proclaim that the first seven days of June each year will be Senior Volunteer Appreciation Week. This is a way to thank our seniors for everything they do for our communities across Ontario each year.

COVID-19 Vaccine - I received my 1st dose of the COVID19 vaccine. It was quick, easy & I encourage Ontarians to embrace this opportunity when it's your turn. Ontario’s vaccine rollout is well underway with over 3.7M vaccines administered to date. York Regional Police Meeting - The recent discussion I had with the YRP was very important and informative as we reviewed the rising concern of ‘hate motivated crimes’ in Markham-Unionville. The YRP are implementing initiatives to address these criminal actions. I look forward to staying in communication with the YRP.
   

Other Activities

   

Mask Donation from SSE Care Solutions - I was delighted to join Minister Thompson as I attended the 2nd mask donation from SSE Care Solutions. The total donation of 500,000 level-3 high-barrier masks to the provincial inventory will be distributed to areas across Ontario! Thank you for your generous donation! #OntarioSpirit

   
Additional Protection for Retirement Home Residents and StaffI had the great pleasure of joining Minister Cho and my fellow caucus colleagues at Mon Sheong Markham Private Care to announce our government’s additional investment of $30 million to help the retirement home sector cover COVID-19 related costs. FM105.9 - I was invited to do an interview for FM105.9 Chinese Radio Network and its panelists. In this informative debriefing session, I recapped details and shared insights on highlights within Ontario’s 2021 Budget, Ontario’s Action Plan: Protecting People’s Health & Our Economy. March of Dimes Canada - Thank you to the March of Dimes for hosting this incredible National Caregiver Day event! Thanks also to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting this organization and its fantastic initiatives. We are so very grateful to all of our caregivers across Ontario for their endless support, care and dedication to our loved ones.

   

Tour Industry Association of Ontario - It was a pleasure to meet members of TIAO. The panel shared up-to-date information and statistics, and offered various perspectives on ways in which the Ontario government can further support the tourism sector as we work towards economic recovery. During this unprecedented time, our government remains dedicated to supporting Ontarians and our small businesses.

2021 Budget - The 2021 Budget brings Ontario’s total COVID-19 Action Plan to $51B. It delivers supports for families, workers & small businesses while creating conditions for job creation & long-term prosperity. Learn more HERE. Expanding Age Eligibility for AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine to 40+ - Beginning on April 20th, individuals aged 40 and over can receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at a pharmacy or at primary care locations across Ontario. Learn more HERE. To find a participating pharmacy near you, click HERE
   

Tourism and Hospitality Small Business Grant - Ontario Is providing $200M to help stabilize the industry as it recovers from COVID-19, through the new Tourism Recovery Program and Tourism & Hospitality Small Business Support Grant. COVID-19 Child Benefit and CARE Expansion - The Ontario Government is providing additional financial relief to parents during this challenging time. This includes a 20% top-up to the 2021 child care tax credit, as well as a 3rd round of payments to support parents through Ontario’s COVID-19 Child Benefit. Learn more HERE.
