Markham-Unionville Updates

Invitation - Join me on Friday, June 18th from 5-6:00 pm for Markham-Unionville’s Crime Prevention Presentation. This event will be delivered by guest speaker Police Constable Brian Hinds of the Crime Prevention Unit, York Police Services District #5. Important topics will include home invasion, residential break and enters, and personal safety. RSVP here

Bill 270 Receives Royal Assent - I am honoured to announce that my second PMB, Bill 270 Senior Volunteer Appreciation Week Act has received Royal Assent. This Bill recognizes the first seven days of June in each year as Senior Volunteer Appreciation Week. I thank the communities and organizations across Ontario for their overwhelming support towards this Bill.

Bill 112 (Member’s Statement) - Thank you to communities across Ontario and Lupus Ontario for your ongoing support towards my PMB Bill 112, Lupus Awareness Day Act. Proclaiming a day of awareness will help to inspire, inform and support individuals with lupus while diagnoses and treatment methods continue to improve. Watch the Member’s Statement.

Tourism Week – I was thrilled to visit Markham-Unionville’s iconic tourist attraction Main Street Unionville to celebrate Tourism Week. In support of local tourism and small businesses hit by the pandemic, our government has introduced the Ontario Tourism and Travel Small Business Support Grant. Ontario.ca/COVIDsupport

Virtual Meetings and Roundtables

York University – It was fantastic to connect with Dr. Rhonda Lenton, the President of York University, and Ijade Maxwell Rodrigues, the Chief of Government and Community Relations. They shared an exciting proposal outlined ways in which the university is preparing for the upcoming school year.

CF Markville Mall - It was a pleasure to meet Kelly Vieira, the General Manager of Markville Mall to learn about management’s opinions and perspectives on Ontario's Roadmap to Reopen.

Bill 299 - I was delighted to attend the press conference for Bill 299 with my colleagues. If passed, this Bill will proclaim the month of May each year as Anti-Asian Racism Education Month. Discrimination and racism have absolutely no place in Ontario.

York Region Arts Council – I was happy to connect with Sergei Petrov, the Executive Director of the York Region Arts Council to get key updates regarding the regional Arts and Tourism sector, and council’s ideas on how the arts can further be supported during this time.

Seniors Townhall - Thank you to Minister MacLeod for inviting me to her Nepean Seniors Townhall. I was delighted to attend this event alongside Minister Cho, and was thrilled to speak to the participants as I shared details about my PMB, Bill 270 Senior Volunteer Appreciation Week.

Hope Bible Church - Thank you, Pastor Jason Lock & Pastor Paul Whittingstall from Hope Bible Church, for sharing their safe reopening plan. I appreciate the church's contribution to help stop the spread of COVID-19. I look forward to visiting the church in person in the near future!
