Markham-Unionville Updates

Back2School - I offer best wish to students in #MarkhamUnionville and #Ontario as they begin the new school year. Since COVID-19 began, a combined funding of over $182.7M has been allocated to York Region & York Catholic District School Boards to keep students and staff safe. The Ontario government remains committed to keeping our schools as safe as possible. See my further remarks HERE.

AsialiciousTO – This annual event celebrates Ontario’s wonderful multicultural diversity while supporting our local economy. I was thrilled to attend the Carnival Opening Ceremony with my colleagues on behalf of the Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.

Mt. Joy Temporary Drive Test Centre – As of Sept. 7th, a temporary road test centre is open at the Mt. Joy Go Station, 1801 Bur Oak Ave, Markham, ON. This location will offer G2 & G road tests seven days a week. To book your road test, visit DriveTest.ca . See my remarks HERE and find additional information HERE.

#IndependentPharmacyDay - Ontario's independent pharmacies play a significant role in the battle against COVID-19. I thank Mt. Joy Pharmacy and all the independent pharmacies across #MarkhamUnionville and #Ontario for continuing providing excellent care to Ontarians. A video with my personal thanks can be viewed HERE.

Celebrations, Events, and Meeting Constituents

Honouring WWII, Korean and Returning Veterans - Our brave veterans have made tremendous sacrifices to ensure that we in Canada and Ontario enjoy freedom and safety. I extend heartfelt thanks to Hon. Lt.-Col. Nancy M. Siew & Photographer Feng Lin for creating a portrait album in tribute to Canada’s WWII & Korean veterans. I was honored to attend this memorable event alongside my colleagues.

Quest for Gold - The Government of Ontario is proud to support Ontarian athletes who are among the best in our province and Canada. Congratulations to #MarkhamUnionville athletes Jason Ho-Shue and Amr Abd Elrehim for being two of the Quest for Gold - Ontario Athlete Assistance Program recipients.

Funful Mini-Olympics - I was delighted to attend Good Neighbours of York Region Association’s Funful Mini-Olympics event. Thank you to the association for organizing this gathering that encourages seniors to stay healthy and active. Exercise is very beneficial to our health at every age.

Inquiry on Education – We are proud to have an education system here in Ontario that allows students to grow and prosper. I had a productive meeting with #MarkhamUnionville constituents Silver and Ida Lau who shared their thoughts on education and I was able to address their inquiries.

Support Enhance Access Services (SEAS) Centre - SEAS Centre has supported families and vulnerable individuals through a wide range of services, activities and programs for 35 years. I was delighted to attend their 35th anniversary celebration to commemorate this milestone.

Inquiry on Physicians and Healthcare - Our front-line heroes have our gratitude for keeping us safe during #COVID19. I met with #MarkhamUnionville constituents Eric and Sandy Chan and was happy to hear their inquiries about physicians and healthcare.
